Australia has the highest incidence of melanoma in the world. Melanoma is the most common cancer in males aged 25-54 and in females aged 15-29 years. It is the second most common cancer in women 30 - 54 years of age. In the overall population of Australia, melanoma ranks as the third most common cancer.

It is the purpose of the MIA to foster prevention, treatment and research into melanoma. The work of the MIA involves research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of melanoma as well as public education on the dangers of melanoma. The Melanoma Institute Australia is a charitable organisation and all donations are fully tax deductible.
