On Sunday 23 March, 6,000 people across Australia united to take action against melanoma for Melanoma March 2014. So far, through the community’s generous support, we have raised an incredible half a million dollars (and still counting)! Money raised will directly fund research into finding a cure for melanoma.
Melanoma March is a month long awareness campaign dedicated to raising funds and awareness for ‘Australia’s
national cancer’. Melanoma March saw exciting growth in 2014 with inaugural marches held in 10 regional locations, bringing the total to 16 march locations Australia wide. This year we saw not only the community walk take place across the country, but for the first time we welcomed BB Retail Capital and their Bake – Don’t Sunbake campaign, as well as Raphael McGowan’s Cycling to March. Both these initiatives contributed to the tremendous amount of funds and awareness raised throughout our campaign.
Melanoma March started as a community walk to raise awareness for other Australians, and to pay tribute to
those lost to the devastating disease. Melanoma March is now a significant contributor to finding a cure. Melanoma Institute Australia is currently leading the world in research and trials for treatment pathways for melanoma patients with brain metastases – about 20% of all melanoma patients. Funds raised from Melanoma March will contribute towards this ground breaking research led by Associate Professor Georgina Long and her team. We simply could not have had such success without the wonderful contribution of our volunteers, sponsors,
partners, ambassadors, fundraisers, staff and of course our Melanoma Marchers, and for this, we thank you!
