National Shade Day is your opportunity to take action against melanoma during the month of September.
National Shade Day takes place on Friday 6th September 2013 with a community breakfast hosted by Toyota. This event will kick off a month-long awareness campaign for Melanoma Institute Australia.
Often referred to as “Australia's national cancer”, Australia has the highest incidence of melanoma in the world. It is the most common cancer in young people (aged 15–39 years) and more than 12,500 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed in Australia every year.
Would you like more than just a pat on the back when you complete your personal challenge?
To give hope to those living with melanoma, we are asking you to take up your own personal challenge during September to raise awareness of melanoma and raise much-needed funds for melanoma research and education at Melanoma Institute Australia. So whether you are climbing Everest, running a marathon, giving up chocolate, competing in a race, hosting a movie night or challenging your friends to a round of trivia, we hope you will join us!
The Institute offers schools and work places the opportunity to learn more about the risks of melanoma and skin cancer through the presentation of awareness talks to their community. The good news with melanoma is that 90% of melanomas can be cured if detected and treated early enough.
Our prevention message is simple, but essential: Protect your skin from UV radiation, check your skin regularly and know what to look for. Doing this could save your life.
Visiting Institute Speakers:
Jay Allen, Stage 3 melanoma survivor, is a passionate and inspirational speaker who shares his story to raise awareness of the disease that nearly cost him his life, in the hope of saving others from the same fate.
Lou Clayton, former school teacher, delivers messaging into the deadliness of melanoma, importance of protection from UV radiation, along with the ABCDE guidelines for the early detection of melanoma.
Flexible Delivery: We can tailor our talk to meet your timing and audience needs. Our presentation is interactive and effective in large or small groups.
