School Education Program
Educating the community about melanoma is a high priority for MIA. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with melanoma the most common form of cancer in young Australians. Just one bad sunburn at a young age can increase your risk of developing melanoma significantly in the future, and so education and sun safety must start early.
Sun Safe Workshop
Through our school education program, MIA continues to educate thousands of students every year through our engaging Sun Safe Workshop.
Our 30-minute interactive Sun Safe Workshop focuses on developing a strong understanding and knowledge about sun safety as well as educating students about the dangers of melanoma, and the best methods for prevention and early detection.
With two age-specific workshops to choose from (high school and primary school (stage 3)), our workshops have been developed to target cross-curriculum learning area content from the Australian Curriculum including Mathematics, English and Health and Physical Education.
The workshops also target five General Capabilities:
- Critical and creative thinking
- Personal and social capability
- Ethical understanding
This workshop is proudly supported by Tour de Cure and Coca-Cola Australia Foundation to reach schools in regional and rural hotspots across NSW.
Schools can book their workshops now by emailing us or calling us on 02 9911 7200.
"The presentation was highly effective and the children were very engaged. It had a real impact on the kids and has made the children far more conscious of the need to take practical steps to avoid the potentially deadly consequences of sun exposure. Thank you for providing the children with this wonderful opportunity. We would also like to sincerely thank you for providing such a professional and insightful presentation."
