Helen has a background in general and midwifery nursing and a Master's in Public Health from The University of Sydney. She has previously worked in Boston and New York on HIV and AIDS clinical trials. She joined the melanoma research group at Westmead Institute for Medical Research in 1996.
Her current role is managing and co-ordinating the cancer genetic epidemiology projects such as GenoMEL (Sydney arm of the International melanoma consortium) and the Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) of Melanoma led by Prof Anne Cust.
As part of the Westmead Melanoma Research Program Helen works closely with Pablo Fernandez-Peñas, a Professor of Dermatology at The University of Sydney and Head of the Department of Dermatology at Westmead Hospital.
