Community Fundraising October Wrap-Up

Community Fundraising October Wrap-Up

4 November 2019

As we say goodbye to October, it is time again to say thank you to our incredible community fundraisers who are helping us get closer to our goal of zero deaths from melanoma with each event they organise.

Brothers Jack and Sam Glasson wanted to shave their heads in early October to show their appreciation and respect for all melanoma patients. They raised $1500 for MIA – thank you, boys!

Over two nights, Creative for a Cause presented 'Warped', a musical variety show where all proceeds were donated to MIA in loving memory of Diana Perini. The production was a huge success, raising over $10,000! Thank you to everyone who participated and special thanks to Greta Georgiou.

Amelia and Michael Wood have been hosting the Michael Wood Electrical Golf Day for 12 years with many different charity beneficiaries. This year, after the loss of close family friend Janelle to melanoma, they decided to fundraise for MIA. Over $3000 was raised on the day by their 81 players and spectators. About 20 members of Janelle's family made the trip to the town of Jandowae for 'A Day for J', with Janelle's son and 7-year-old grandson driving 800kms to be there! Thank you to all involved.

Matthew Limbrey and Liz Gray both competed in the Bowral Classic, a 120km bicycle race to raise money for MIA, raising almost $1000 between them! Liz also contributed to her fundraiser through the sale of her handcrafted greeting cards.

Adrian Gilchrist has shaved his head each year since 2013 after he lost his father, David, in 2011 to melanoma. This year, he raised $1000 for MIA. Thank you to everyone who donated to 'Bald Gilly'!

Malcolm Price and Elizabeth Liu from Poolwerx Turramurra have both been touched by melanoma in different ways. The team at Poolwerx Turramurra dedicated the last weekend in October to raise funds for MIA through the Poolwerx Turramurra Charity BBQ. They raised $1185 with additional funds still to come from Poolwerx itself. Thank you to everyone involved!
