Community Fundraising September Wrap-Up

Community Fundraising September Wrap-Up

2 October 2019

Another month has flown by and yet again we have a host of amazing community fundraisers who generously gave up their time to help us reach our goal of zero deaths from melanoma.

The Nelson Bay Melanoma Awareness Golf Day, organised by Lynne Willis, had a 'cover up for melanoma' focus. Twelve ladies from the Woolooware Golf Girls donned their sun safe long sleeve shirts and colourful socks to raise $400 for melanoma. Thank you ladies!

Timothy Ashworth signed up to the Coastal Classic a few weeks after his uncle, Tony Ashworth, was diagnosed with melanoma. Timothy's 30km trail run, held on September 7 along one of the most stunning tracks in Australia, raised almost $3000 for melanoma research in memory of Tony, who sadly passed away in April this year.

Thank you to Nikki Patulny who organised a Melanoma Awareness Campaign at Concord High School to raise awareness about melanoma and sun safety, raising $400 for MIA.

The Terry Raper Memorial Bowls Tournament was held for the 13th consecutive year at Revesby Workers Sports Club. We thank everyone who attended, with a special mention to Dave Raper for his continued efforts in supporting MIA.

Members of Genesis Health & Fitness Mayfield participated in the Genesis Mayfield Walkathon. For 12 hours, members of the gym and local community walked in half hour shifts on the treadmill to raise money for melanoma research! Staff member Christy and owner John both lost their fathers to melanoma within a week of one another.

We extend our thanks to the Cameron Downs State School Community who held a fundraiser along with the Cameron Downs State School Playgroup. The day included morning tea and a range of activities for the kids and raised over $200!

Keryn Salzmann, Nicole Tasker and 60 willing walkers took on the South Coast Charity walk from Stanwell Park on September 22 in support of Nicole's husband Steve who is currently undergoing treatment for Stage IV melanoma. Together, they raised almost $3000. What an amazing effort!

A big thank you to Guy Gibson and Vanda Smith for organising the 2019 Woollahra Charity Golf Day at the Woollahra Golf Club for the second consecutive year. Over 150 people attended and funds raised are still being counted!

What a month – and thanks to all our committed fundraising community.
