First patient recruited to the EAGLE FM Trial

Evaluation of Groin Lymphadenectomy Extent for Metastatic Melanoma (EAGLE FM) clinical trial has recruited its first patient.
Professor Spillane, in collaboration with a number of other leading experts and Australia and New Zealand Melanoma Trials Group (ANZMTG) have developed a clinical trial which will further investigate a more rational evidence base for the appropriate management of metastatic melanoma in the groin lymph nodes.
The ANZMTG 01.12 EAGLE FM Trial is a multi-centre, phase III, prospective, randomised clinical trial comparing complete inguinal lymphadenectomy (groin lymph nodes dissection) and complete ilio-inguinal lymphadenectomy (groin and pelvic lymph nodes dissection) for patients with metastatic melanoma to the groin LNs and no evidence of pelvic disease on PET/CT Scan.
The trial has received broad interest from top national and international clinicians. The trial is currently open at MIA and anticipated to open at other major institutions in Australia including Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (NSW) and Mater Hospitals (QLD).
The ESMO conference provided a platform for announcing a number of key melanoma research findings - including practice-changing research from MIA.
