Melanoma Institute Australia hosts SunSafe Student Ambassador Programs 2019

30 August 2019

This week, Melanoma Institute Australia hosted the first of six SunSafe Student Ambassador Programs for 2019.

The day opened with an emotional presentation by 25-year old Stage IV melanoma patient Natalie Fornasier, who brought home the message of how melanoma can affect young people.

Dr Lalit Pallan, one of MIA’s 2019 Medical Oncology Fellows, gave an excellent presentation covering what melanoma is and why young people should care about it, as well as arming them with practical ways to reduce their chances of getting melanoma.

Katharine Collins from SpeakOut Schools gave a very engaging and practical presentation to empower the students to give a presentation with impact.

The students did an amazing job showcasing all that they had learned and came up with their own creative way of presenting their information to their peers. We look forward to seeing how they go presenting back to their grade!

‘Please invite us back next year, a great program and initiative!’ said one teacher.

‘The girls and I walked away very inspired and motivated to enact some change at our school,’ said another.

After a highly successful pilot program last year, the program will be held at a further five location across the eastern seaboard in the coming weeks.
